Dar es Salaam. Minister for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports Emmanuel Nchimbi has reminded all sports bodies to fully implement their respective five-year development programmes. Nchimbi made the remark during a fundraising for the national women’s soccer team, Twiga Stars, yesterday, threatening to annul membership of those which will fail. Late last year, the soft-spoken minister asked leaders of all sports associations to submit to the government their long-term development programmes and budget. And yesterday, he applauded the bodies that have so far submitted their programmes and challenged them to work towards that end. “The challenge for all associations is the implementation of the programmes, but since there is no short cut to success, leaders will have to work hard to achieve the set goals.“Failure to do so would lead to the cancellation of respective association’s membership. We aren’t ready to listen to excuses anymore,” he warned. Nchimbi also urged Twiga Stars to flex their muscles in their African Women Championship qualifiers, promising to keep on supporting them. The Tanzanian girls will square off against Namibia’s Brave Gladiators in the return leg at the National Stadium tomorrow. The home side has a 2-0 advantage. (Jessca Nangawe) |
