Dar es Salaam. The Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro, usually a venue for soccer matches, will today host a real battle featuring former world champions Francis Cheka and Karama Nyilawila.

For the past two or so weeks, the two boxers, rated the most feared pugilists in the country, have been undergoing intensive training for the 10-round non-title bout.

The eagerly awaited middleweight fight has been organised by the Tanzania Professional Boxing Commission (TPBC).
TPBC said yesterday that both Cheka and Nyilawila were in great shape, each looking forward to winning the fight, clearing the controversy that had surrounded the bout.

Early this week, the commission almost called off the fight following a threat by Pugilist Syndicate of Tanzania that it could not allow Nyilawila to get into the ring.The fight will be preceded by a number of undercards involving boxers from Dar es Salaam and Morogoro. (Imani Makongoro)
