The Citizen Reporter Dar es Salaam. After a rickety start to the second round of the Vodacom Premier League, Young Africans swing back into action today for yet another tricky date with JKT Ruvu at the National Stadium.Defending champions Yanga, second in the league table with 28 points from 14 games and three points adrift of league leaders Simba, will be looking to pile pressure on the Msimbazi Reds who are not in action today. Last Saturday, Moro United forced Yanga to a 2-2 draw in a closely contested match at the same venue. The titleholders were not impressive and they survived a scare before Ugandan striker Emmanuel Kiiza netted the equaliser from a spot kick in the second half to salvage a point.Fresh from the wobbly start to the second round, head coach Kostadin Papic was in a defiant mood and put the Moro United draw behind him. "It was a normal slip up. I’ve addressed the mistakes I noted during our previous game, I am sure we’ll overcome JKT Ruvu tomorrow (today),” he said. But Yanga should not expect a win on silver platter because JKT Ruvu, smarting from last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Dodoma Police at Chamazi Stadium, are in dire need of the three points at stake. A win for the army team, now placed sixth in the league table with 17 points after 14 outings, would see them climb one place up the league standing.Yanga, on the other hand, will tie on 31 points with leaders Simba should they turn the tables on the army outfit today. However, they will be unfortunate to miss the services of their first-choice goalie Yaw Berko and midfielder Nurdin Bakari who are still nursing injuries.Meanwhile, an Ethiopian referee has been appointed to officiate next month’s African Champions League first leg match between Yanga and Egypt’s Zamalek. Bamlack Tessema will handle the match set for February 18 at the National Stadium, TFF information officer, Boniface Wambura, confirmed yesterday.Wambura said Tessema would be assisted by his compatriots Yilma Knife and Mussie Kindie. |
