Twiga, Namibia match fetches Sh38m |

By Majuto Omary The Citizen Reporter Dar es Salaam. Some Sh38,220,000 was realised during the Africa Women Championship (AWC) qualifier between Twiga Stars and Namibia’s Brave Gladiators at the National Stadium on Sunday.
Twiga Stars trounced the Namibia team 5-2 in the return leg match to book a place in the next stage on 7-2 aggregate.Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) information officer, Boniface Wambura said yesterday that 16,334 people paid to watch Sunday’s match. Entrance fees for the showdown at the 60,000-seater venue were Sh1,000 for children and Sh2,000 for the green and blue seats, while Sh3,000 and Sh5,000 were charges for the orange seats and VIP C and B.
The entrance fee for the match was Sh10,000. The figure was for the VIP A seats.Wambura thanked fans and the business community for the support they accorded the national women’s soccer team before and during the match.He said they were optimistic the football fraternity will give Twiga Stars the support they need to eliminate Ethiopia in their next assignment.
Coached by Charles Boniface Mkwasa, Twiga will swing back into action between May 25 and 27 in Addis Ababa for the first leg of the final round of the qualifiers.The return leg will take place at the National Stadium two weeks later, according to the fixture released by CAF recently.
The Ethiopia team qualified for the final round at the expense of Egypt, one of the pre-tournament favourites. Having tumbled 4-2 to Egypt in the first leg in Cairo early this month, the Ethiopia girls put up a brave fight on Sunday to hit their opponents 4-0 in Addis Ababa.
