Dar es Salaam. With Dar es Salaam Regional Football Association (DRFA) elections due next month, former Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) secretary general, Michael Wambura says the electoral process in its current form is neither legal nor equitable.

Wambura, who eyes the DRFA presidency, said yesterday that the elections will not be fair if certain clauses in the association’s constitution are not reviewed.“There are certain conditions and clauses in the DRFA constitution that have to be reviewed if the election is to be free and fair,” said Wambura.

He is demanding the review of a clause that says candidates with primary education can contest the association’s presidency and the cost of application forms, among other conditions.

Wambura says a person with primary education was not clued-up and competent enough to lead the sports body of the DRFA’s magnitude. He also decried a decision by the incumbent leadership to fix charges for the application forms at Sh500,000, saying it was contrary to the rules and regulations governing the elections.

“People contesting various posts in the DRFA are supposed to pay Sh200,000 each for the application forms, and not Sh500,000,” he said.Wambura is among those contesting the presidency in the elections set for March 18.
