Dar es Salaam. With nearest challengers Yanga and Azam not in action today, leaders Simba can open up a six-point gap at the top of the table when they face relegation-threatened Villa Squad at the 60,000-seater National Stadium.

Having played 15 matches to date, the Milovan Cirkovic’s side are almost one-third of the way through the season, and with 10 wins and one loss, they currently enjoy a three-point lead with 34 points.Simba, who earned a hard-fought 2-0 win over “giant killers” JKT Oljoro on Wednesday, head into this match with a clear sense of superiority considering Villa Squad’s poor run of form.

“We don’t underrate any team in the league, we are going into match expecting Villa Squad to offer a stiff challenge.
“I know they will be targeting a win to move away from the relegation zone, but I am confident that Simba will carry the day,” said Cirkovic. The Serbian added: “We have the best opportunity to stretch our lead to six points, if other challengers lose then it wont be a three-horse race to the crown.

“We are ready to face the Villa Squad challenge because we’ve plenty of ammunition to gun them down.”
After a long hiatus, Simba embarked on the second round with a nervy 2-1 win over Coastal Union before holding nerve to beat JKT Oljoro 2-0 at the same venue.

Simba will miss the services of their reliable forward Haruna Moshi who saw red during their encounter with JKT Oljoro on Wednesday. However, the Msimbazi Street outfit will not find it easy against Villa Squad, for they will be looking for three vital points to climb out of the relegation zone.Villa Squad, who have yet to get a point since the kick-off of the second round, are glued at the bottom of the table with 10 points out of 15 matches.

Not to be outdone, Villa Squad head coach Habib Kondo expressed his confidence in winning today.
“We expect to get our first points of the second round at the expense of Simba, my players are in the right frame of mind.

“Simba are up there with 34 points. We respect them a great deal but we will be out to beat them. “We are well prepared for this match despite being in a losing streak,” Kondo said.Apart from the Simba-Villa Squad encounter, Moro United will face Coastal Union at Chamazi Stadium while Ruvu Shooting will be up in arms against Dodoma Police at Mlandizi grounds.
