Tanzania women soccer team Twiga Stars got off to flying start in the Africa Cup of Nations when they floored Ethiopia 3-1 in Addis Ababa yesterday.
The win gives Tanzanian ladies a downhill to sail to the first round when the teams meet again in Dar es Salaam two weeks later.
Twiga Stars need a draw to move up to the next stage.
Twiga  Stars fired home the opener in the 24th minute through Esther Chaburuma powerful strike to let the match end 1-0 for the visitors at the first half.
Mwanahamisi Omary  earned Twiga Stars their second goal in the 53rd minute  to put ensure her team’s victory.

The hosts scored their consolation goal in the third quarter of a game  Zaitun Rashid’s spotkick.  
Twiga Stars put the final nail to the Ethiopian coffin barely two minutes to stoppage time through Asha Rashid Mwalala.

Speaking from Ethiopia yesterday the president of Tanzania Women Football Association (TWFA) Madina Lina Mhando hailed her players for superb show in the foreign ground.

“All players were on the form and outplayed their opponents in all sections,” she said.

20 players and four officials,  the chairperson of the Tanzania Women Football Association (TWFA), Lina Mhando, the team manager, Furaha Francis, their coach Boniface Mkwasa and his assistant Mohamed Rishard were involved in the victorious mission.

The players who travelled include  Fatuma Mustafa, Fatuma Omari, Mwasikili, Esther Chabruma, Mary Masatu, Eto Mlezi, Hellena Peter, Fridiana Daudi and Fadhila Hamadi.

Others are Maimuna Saidi, Fatuma Bushiri, Fatuma Khatibu, Mwanahamisi Omary, Asha Rashid, Zena Khamisi, Mwanaidi Tamba, Pulkheria Chalaji, Mwajuma Abdalla and Neema Kuga.

The winner of the two legs will play against Eritrea who advanced to the next round after Kenya had opted to pull out of the qualifiers.

The Women African Football Championship is scheduled to be held in South Africa in October, this year.
