Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s professional boxer Chupaki Chipindi showed little mercy for Malawian Paul Kalamba when he registered a technical knockout.

Chipindi, enjoying an electric atmosphere stopped the Malawian in the second round of the eight-round cruiserweight bout held at Green City Hall. The Tanzanian started the bout brightly, displaying impressive skills with a flurry of vicious jabs.

He put his challenger at bay throughout the first round. Sensing the danger of losing the fight, Kalamba resorted to holding tactics, which appeared to frustrate his charging opponent. Boxing enthusiasts had lots of fun as both pugilists displayed impressive skills and footwork in the second round.

After a shaky start, the Malawian looked more aggressive in the early seconds of the second round, but Chipindi stood firm.It was however the end of the road for Kalamba as Chipindi unleashed vicious punches that sent the former to the canvas. Kalamba failed to beat the mandatory counts from referee Omari Yazidu and Chipindi punched the air to celebrate the victory.

Speaking after the fight, Chipindi expressed his delight for starting the year 2012 on a high note.
He said: “Kalamba is one of the best fighters, but I used my best chance of the second round to hit him hard and it paid dividends. “I am happy to win the first bout of 2012, I believe that it will be a good year for me,”.”

Chipindi said he would keep on training hard so as to win more bouts this year. The Malawian conceded defeat, but promised to come back a stronger boxer should they meet in a rematch. The day also saw Saidi Yazidu knock out Hassan Jumanne in the fifth round of the light middleweight while West Lloyd out pointed Alex Mwaiche 40-36 in the welterweight bout.

Bagaza Mwambene made a triumphant return to boxing when he registered a technical knockout over Bruno Sanga in the super middleweight fight.
