Majuto Omary , The Citizen Reporter The Morogoro-based boxer rubbished Nyilawila’s claims stressing that he was not ready for the rematch with a “mediocre” pugilist. “I can’t see the rematch happening anytime soon. He should train a bit harder before thinking about fighting me instead of shouting in the media,” he said. Cheka added: “Nyilawila was off colour almost throughout the fight. I really can’t imagine how he won the WBF title. After the bout Nyilawila announced retirement, but two days later the 74-kilogramme fighter backtracked on his decision. “I announced to hang up my gloves out of anger because the judges favoured Cheka, but I am not retiring yet and I want a rematch at a neutral venue,” Nyilawila said. However, his hope of avenging the defeat might not happen as Cheka plans to concentrate on international bouts. "I am tired of fighting against local boxers, my major aim this time around is to secure as many international bouts as possible,” he said. Last September, Cheka survived a scare before overcoming hard-fighting Mada Maugo by points in a non-title bout. It took Cheka 10 full rounds to defeat Maugo, an accomplished boxer, in a tough but exciting middleweight fight at the Jamhuri Stadium. Coming into this bout, Maugo was seen as a very potent threat to Cheka, who is best known to his admirers as SMG. |
