Boxing superstars Roy Jones Jr (US) and Hector Camacho (Puerto Rica) will have a date in Dar es Salaam on December 9 with legendary Mike “Iron” Tyson being the ring announcer.Tyson, who at 20 years old was the youngest boxer ever to win the WBC, WBA and IBF world heavyweight titles, will be coming to Tanzania for the first time. The Pugilist Syndicate of Tanzania president, Emmanuel Mlundwa, confirmed it adding that a prominent American musician, Britney Spears will colour the bout. Mlundwa, who is also a Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) representative, said the high profile fight was organised by Exotic Flights Private Jet Services under Rudy Gonzales. The 12-round scheduled bout will see the super- middleweight pugilists vie for the coveted UBO belt. “We have started preparations for the bout and we expect the belt to arrive tomorrow (today) from the Denmark. “As soon as it arrives we will unveil it to the public because it’s for a big match with prominent figures expected to attend,” he said. He added: “We are delighted to host the fight, so it’s our hope that the world will know a lot about our country.” On the same day, Morogoro’s Francis Cheka will be out to defend his UBO middleweight intercontinental title against an opponent from the US. “We have yet to know his rival’s name, but hopefully in a few days we’ll make it public…Cheka already knows about the forthcoming assignment,” he said. The PST president said they were planning to involve many local boxers in the undercard category. He said their intention was to promote boxing so that many talented youngsters would join the sport. “The UBO has been in the boxing business several for many years now, but this time around, they want to establish a strong base in Africa, we are looking forward to benefiting from this,” Mlundwa said.
