Dar es Salaam. The Athletics Tanzania (AT) will hold its general election on March 3 in Songea.
The polls were to be held on February 26, but AT secretary general Suleiman Nyambui said unavoidable circumstances forced them to fix another date.

Nyambui fell short of disclosing the reason for frequently rescheduling the elections, which were first slated for December 10 last year.He called upon all interested Tanzanians to contest at the elections as all posts will be up for grabs.

“All posts will be vacant. AT is calling upon all Tanzanians who feel that they can lead the association to apply. We will also elect 10 members of the association,” he said.

The Olympic silver medallist said forms would be available in all regions for interested people to fill, adding that those who want the posts must have sound education.

Nyambui said his body would hold the elections despite some regions, including Dar es Salaam, failing to elect their leaders. He said AT has 21 regional members and the association only needs more than 10 regions to hold the elections.

Nyambui added that each region would send three members at the general election. In a related development, Nyambui said next year’s National Athletics Championships to be held in June will be used as a 2012 London Olympic Games qualifying test.
