Dar es Salaam. Athletics Tanzania (AT) is desperately seeking Sh10 million to stage this year’s National Cross country scheduled to take place in Moshi next month.AT secretary general Suleiman Nyambui said yesterday that he was expecting hordes of runners in the annual event.

However, the Olympic silver medallists said AT does not have enough cash to stage the event smoothly, thus called upon various companied to come forward and support them.

Nyambui said the money would serve to foot administration and technical expenses.Nyambui said they expect all Tanzania Mainland and Isles athletes to compete in the race that will be used to scout the up and coming runners ahead of the international competitions.

He said the regions are required to confirm their participation one week before the event. The event has been scheduled to take place on February 19. “We need support from all athletics stakeholders because time is running very fast and we do not have funds to facilitate the competition.

“This event is important for the development of the game in the country, so we welcome both financial and moral support,” he said. The event would see athletes compete in the 12km race (men and women) while the juniors runners will battle it out in the eight kilometre race.
