Majuto Omary The Citizen Reporter Dar es Salaam. Athletics Tanzania (AT) has opted to turn to regional administrative offices for financial support, it has been revealed. The cash-strapped AT is desperately seeking Sh18 million for its general election set for March 3 in Songea, Ruvuma Region.
The national athletics body’s secretary general, Suleiman Nyambui, said yesterday that they are in a financial crisis and could not manage to raise the money on their own. He said they approached various institutions and individuals for support but none of them has so far responded positively. “We now intend to ask regional administrative officers for support, hopefully they will bail us out,” said Nyambui.
Elaborating, Nyambui said they would ask the regional administrative officers to foot transport, meal and accommodation costs for the AT general meeting from their respective regions. The election was to take place on February 26, but AT postponed it to March 3 due to what the body’s secretary termed as ‘unavoidable circumstances.’
