Dar es Salaam. The Netball Second Division League is set to begin on February 25 to March 3 at the TCC Chang’ombe courts here.Announcing this yesterday, the acting secretary general of the Tanzania Netball Association (Chaneta), Rose Mkisi, said that the deadline for registration would be February 15.

Mkisi said that participating teams are required to be in Dar es Salaam a week before the start of the league and that each team is supposed to pay Sh100,000 as participation fee.

The long serving Chaneta official said eight teams have so far confirmed their participation for the event, which would see six of them qualify for the First Division League.

She named them as Tandaimba, Masasi, and Mtwara Municipal, all from Mtwara Region, JKT (Kigoma), Sumbawanga Municipal, Sumbawanga Police (Rukwa), Shinyanga and Morogoro’s Alliance and Mzinga.

However Mkisi said the association does not have enough money to run the league, thus called on netball lovers to come forward and support them.

Mariga back on Parma roster
Nairobi. You can call it going full cycle for Kenya’s McDonald Mariga who has made a return to his first club in Italy’s Serie A, FC Parma.

On Monday, Parma announced on their website that they had acquired the midfielder on loan from Inter Milan with an option of taking him up permanently.

This comes hours after Spanish side Real Sociedad had also said on its website that Mariga was returning to Inter after prematurely ending his loan spell with the Basque club.

“Real Sociedad has reached an agreement with Inter Milan to break the loan contract that tied McDonald Mariga (to the club) until June 30, 2012.

After settling administrative procedures, the Kenyan midfielder will return to his Italian club,” the statement said.

There had been speculation over the past couple of months that Mariga would be returning to Inter where he won a treble with the Italian giants in 2010. The Parma announcement however settles his immediate future, for now.

Parma’s website said Mariga would be officially presented to the press yesterday at Tardini Stadium, the home of Parma, and handed the number 15 jersey.

Mariga, 24, first signed for Parma in August 2007, initially on loan from Swedish club Helsingborg. (Charles Nyende)
