Dar es Salaam. Prisons fairytale run in the Dar es Salaam Hockey League (DHL) was yesterday snapped after drawing two-all against Ngome at Lugalo grounds.Ngome, struggling in the middle of the five-team table with six points, started the match on a high note getting the ball and keeping it.

Their relentless efforts eventually yielded fruit in the 14th minute through Ibrahim Baltazari whose shot gave the Prisons shot-stopper no chance.

The goal served as an awakening call to the defending champions, who found their footing, equalising eight minutes later after a defensive mix-up handed Andalwisye Kibona an easy tap into the net.

Unperturbed by the equaliser, Ngome continued to trouble their highly touted opponents into their own half, but their forwards lacked precision in front of the Prisons goal. By the halftime, the match had all indications of an evenly balanced second half, but coming out of the lockers Ngome immediately took charge, setting camp in the wardens’ base.

Miller Pascal gave Ngome the lead in the 47th minute with a stupendous drive getting a through pass from the midfield.  The second goal seemed to revitalize Prisons and for the rest of the match they launched an all-out attack, trying to find a way to get back into the game. On the hour mark, Prisons efforts finally paid off when Abdallah Madodo planted home the equaliser to salvage a point.

Ngome were losing steam as the game wore on and almost conceded the third with seconds to time save for Madodo’s miss.

The reigning champions had won all four matchers plus a walkover against Dar Institute before yesterday draw.
Speaking yesterday’s encounter, Dar es Salaam Regional Hockey Association secretary general Mnonda Magani said the league will continue on Sunday when Ngome clash with Dar Khalsa.
