The national Under-19 cricket team head coach, Kassim Nassoro, is confident of his side’s chances of progressing in the African Cricket Championship Division One despite losing two consecutive matches. Tanzania, which got underway in Windhoek, Namibia on Sunday, has seen the local lads slump to defeats at the hands of Uganda and Sierra Leone. The local boys were scheduled to clash with Kenya yesterday, the match that they were supposed to win to boost their chances. “The losses help to show you that there are no easy matches, every team in the tournament will make it hard for you."But we have not despaired yet, we’ll be all out against Kenya and the next match, hopefully we won’t be shown an exit door early. “We lost the matches, but that will not kill off our spirit, we’ll fight to the very end…we’ve spotted our Achilles heel and victories will come,” the youthful coach said.According to Kassim, his cricketers lacked confidence in their first two matches, which caused them to start the continental tournament on a wrong foot. Besides, Kassim, who took part in the ICC World Cricket League Division IV recently, said his batsmen have not demonstrated their true quality, but he was optimistic they would bounce back. In their Sunday’s match, Tanzania won the toss and elected to bat first giving away their wickets very cheaply to the Uganda. The whole Tanzanian batting line up collapsed and failed to put up a reasonable score for their team. They managed to chalk an achievable 84 runs in 38 overs. The Ugandan top order batsmen chased the score easily to win the game in the 16th over for a loss of only one wicket. |
