Jimmy Mollel has opened a 24-point gap in the race to land the national golf title this season. In the latest order of merit standing released yesterday, the Arusha golfer leads the pack with 69 points. The national golf coach, Farayi Chitengwe, said Mollel boosted his points during the Northern Circuit tournaments held in Arusha and Kilimanjaro. The golfer left his mark in the Mufindi Open, Dar es Salaam Open and Morogoro Open. The Dar es Salaam golfers are still struggling to chase the northern zone players who have exhibited spectacular performances. The best-placed Dar es Salaam golfer is Michael Makala who holds the ninth position with 19 points only. Frank Roman of Kilimanjaro, who enjoyed the lead in the early months of the season, has settled at the second spot with 45 points ahead of Arusha’s Nuru Mollel who has 32. The fourth place went to Abbas Adam of Kilimanjaro who has so far accumulated 31 points, three points above Morogoro’s Godfrey Leverian. Arusha’s Elisante Lembris and John Saidi are also in the top 10 with 24 points apiece, thus claiming the sixth and seventh positions respectively. Frederick Michael (Kilimanjaro) tied with Lembris and Said, but was placed eighth followed by Dar es Salaam’s duo Michael Makala and Iddi Mzaki. The standing might change next week after the 54-hole Coast Open planned for Morogoro. |
