The Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) is set to unveil its final 14-man squad for the ICC World Cricket League Division 4 slated for August in Italy.

The TCA picked 24 top cricketers a fortnight ago who have already started training in Morogoro and Dar es Salaam.

“We’ve the provisional squad and according to reports from coaches, all players are faring well, but we’ve no option but to trim the squad,” said TCA chief executive officer Zulfikar Rehemtullah.

Rehemtullah said the final squad will be selected after the second edition of the Advanced Players League (APL) climaxes next month.

The APL league organised by the TCA will get underway on April 2 with 12 invited foreign players from India and Kenya.

The ICC event will comprise teams from Argentina, Cayman Islands, host Italy, Nepal, Tanzania and the US, all eying two spots to compete in the Division 3 League.

The TCA boss disclosed that the local cricketers would camp in the UK for two weeks before flying to Italy.

“We’ve four players plying their trades in the UK, it will be a good opportunity for them to join the team and train together,” he said.

National team skipper Hamisi Abdallah and Khalil Rehemtulla, both opening bowlers, and left-arm leg break spinner Athumani Kakonzi play for Watford Town Cricket Club.

The 2008 World League Division 4 took place in Dar es Salaam, during which Afghanistan and Hong Kong advanced to the Division 3.
