Successful people take time to measure their achievements, review what still requires to be done, and outline the steps needed to get there. This process is the precursor to their dominating characters. Goals are as essential for veterans as for those just starting out. Goals break down a dream into actionable blocks, create a template for work, and provide direction and motivation for achieving dreams. Concrete goals The end of each calendar year is a ritual moment for reflecting on accomplishments, appraising what still needs to be done and setting goals for the year ahead. Out of such reflections, many people declare resolutions, while others concretise goals for the year ahead. Every person has a wide range of choices in both thoughts and deeds. Every one can use his or her brain for reception and expression of positive or negative thoughts. Whichever choice you pick will shape your life this year. Some people do not set goals because they are afraid of failing. This lack of specific intentions is the first step to failure. It immediately sets your limits in life. Emotions such as fear impede definiteness of purpose and make goals lack excitement. In the coming days, picture how your goals will help in achieving what you truly want and spend time preparing for what you want to accomplish. Make a conscious decision to eliminate all aspects of fear. “Definitness of purpose, plus definitness of plan by which the purpose is to be achieved, succeeds no matter how weak the plan is.” Indeed, the difference between a sound and an unsound plan is that the former, if definitely applied, may be carried out faster than an unsound plan.
