By Joseph Mtebe Julieth Murwa, 29, is a Banking officer with Exim Bank Corporate office. Apart from handling customer account reconciliation and checking Pay on Service machines (POS), deals with Master cards services, still a growing field in Tanzania. What does she do? Usually, my day begins at 8.30 am in the office. I make sure customers accounts are debited and payments made out. I also handle and deal with customers’ queries regarding their master cards. It is a growing field in Tanzania and from experience it seems only a handful of people know about master card technology. There are many benefits with having a master card, it’s like having exact change wherever you go, so you don’t have to worry about carrying around a lot of cash or fishing for coins. Most online purchases are also done using master cards. What do you like about the job? I like the fact that one gets a chance to meet a lot of new people. But I also get to learn more about card technology. Plus, it feels good when you solve a client’s queries and they leave smiling. What challenges do you face? Well, sometimes there is a delay in processing payments and customers get furious. Other times, people complain yet it’s because they don’t understand how the card works. What qualifications does one need to qualify for the job? A degree, in finance or accounting is advisable. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems from Edinburg Napier University, Scotland. And currently, I am doing my MBA at Eastern and Southern African Management Institute. One needs to be customer focused and fast in identifying and addressing customers’ complaints. One should also be a team player. Does the job pay well? Money is never enough. Let’s say good enough considering that it comes with benefits such as medical insurance. |
