The Citizen Correspondent Dar es Salaam.Moshi Khalsal had little mercy on Zanzibar yesterday as they drubbed them 10-0 in a one-sided match of the Phoenix Assurance Mapinduzi hockey tournament at Lugalo grounds. The victory, the second for the Moshi team in two games, means they are through to the semi finals to be held at the same venue this morning. In their opening match, Moshi Khalsal, one of the teams highly tipped for the title, stunned fancied Ngome 6-0 on Friday. Magereza have also booked a place in the next stage of the tournament featuring the crème of hockey teams from Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar.In their opening match, Magereza trashed Ngome 8-0 on Thursday before inflicting a 7-0 defeat on hapless Zanzibar the following day. In yesterday’s game, Moshi Khalsa scored their goals through Vickram Kantu (in the 12th and 15th minutes) and Amar Sobahah (22nd, 27th, 36th and 46th).The other goals for the Moshi team came from Navraj Bhamra (49th, 13th) and Amritpal Bhamra (26th). In yesterday’s other match, Dar Khalsa put up a spirited fight to beat Magereza B 3-1 in a nail-biting game at the same venue. The closely-contested game started at a cracking pace with both teams pressing upfront relentlessly in search of goals. After a tight battle in the opening minutes, Dar khalsa effectively cut off a well-oiled Magereza B mid-field to see Emmanuel Owani grab a sizzling match opener in the 13th minute.Two minutes later, Soka Masenza doubled the lead for the Dar es Salaam team. This was after Omwani beat his markers on the right flank before sending in a block-buster that Magereza’s defender Andrew Mhagama blocked only for Masenza to cash in on the poor clearance to score. Titus Marwa pulled one back for Magereza in the 23rd minute.Dar Khalsa, who hit TPDF and Dar Institute 2-0 and 3-1 respectively in their first two matches, are also through to the semi finals. |
