By Brown Msyani Dar es Salaam trio fired 230 total gross to claim 2-stroke lead in the National Golf Club Championship at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club course yesterday.
Dar es Salaam penned the score through Michael Makala who chalked 76 gross, Pembe Kondo who carded 77 strokes and Adam Mwanyenza who returned 77 for a combined score 230 strokes. Dar es Salaam blew off stiff opposition from Arusha team led by the national golf team hero, Jimmy Mollel. Arusha finished overall runners up after posting 232 total score.
The team’s leader Jimmy Mollel and Elisante Lembrice returned 77 strokes each while Nuru Mollel penned 78 strokes. Moshi Club finished third overall after its golfers fired 243 combined strokes.
Frank Roman, who carded 79 strokes, earned the club its best score. Abbas Adam followed with 80 strokes while Adam saidi 81.
Morogoro Region carded 249 strokes to claim the fourth position. Godfrey Leverian led the onslaught with 79 strokes followed by Mkude Buzo who chalked 80 strokes. Ali Burhan grossed 81 strokes for Morogoro club.
Justin Helela who carded 78 strokes was one of the best players in yesterday’s tee. However, his teammates’ poor score placed Mufindi on the fifth position.
Kalinga Luvanda penned 81 for Mufindi before Yekonia Chaula messing up with ugly 98 strokes. TPC Club team struggles ended them sixth overall after posting 260 combined strokes. Frank Michael carded 84 strokes before Ndosho Sarai adding 84 strokes for the club. George Sembi returned 92 strokes.
Players from six clubs took part in the tournament’s opening round yesterday. The 36-hole competition climaxes today at the same venue. Woolworths is the event’s main sponsor.
