When happiness goes through the window

What you need to know:

  • Much of our happiness, if one were to tell the truth, is superficial. I am not a pessimist but this, over the years, has been a truth in the lives of the people I have met out there.

Oftentimes, we work with hammers and tongs, eking out our lives in this arid world. I said arid because only a few oases of happiness show up throughout one’s life.

Much of our happiness, if one were to tell the truth, is superficial. I am not a pessimist but this, over the years, has been a truth in the lives of the people I have met out there.

We ingratiate with our bosses and spend sleepless nights worrying in near-death stress over the future. Every day is a vicious cycle of events that leaves you exhausted and at the edge of your nerves by the end of the day.

When you wake up the next day, the previous day repeats itself like a chorus in a hymn, only with a few variations. You meet the same back-stabbing "friends," eat the same meals, and do the same things you are used to.

That good relationship you had with your spouse feels more like a bed of thorns, and the warmth no longer exists.

You have money in your pocket but still feel inadequate and indecisive, unlike the days when you were clean broke and wished to have your wallet lined with real cash.

Now you have money at your disposal. Religion, which incidentally happens to be a panacea for everything, ceases to make sense. In other words, you are a walking dead man or woman.

That is when mental health issues set in. It is the most dangerous period in your life. You need to recollect yourself and start somewhere. What then should one do to live their lives fully and enjoy it?

Be calm

The basic behaviour of most people is escapism. They seek to detach themselves from the problem.

In this case, alcoholism, moral decadence, including wanton sex, disrespect for your spouse (even when they treat you well), and the inferiority complex take charge of one’s life.

What we forget is that if one were to look deep inside them, the laws of physics apply to all human beings, and one does not need to be a philosopher to know that every person is surrounded by a magnetic field that attracts everything.

Create goodness for all people, and it will come back to you. I believe that the first rule in life is to be calm.

Rational thinking

I am sorry to say that not many of us are given well-articulated thought. We ride the waves of daily events, and rarely do we stop to think.

No matter how educated some of us are, we are jumpy when it comes to critical and creative thinking. Remember that destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice (William Jennings, 1860–1925, a US political leader).
