Dar es Salaam. NMB Bank has donated sports gear worth Sh16.7 million to the National Military Sports Council Games (BAMATA) as part of its sponsorship for teams competing in the games scheduled to take place in July this year in Morogoro.

The donation includes 154 football and 84 basketball jerseys, 32 tracksuits, and 250 T-shirts to  be used by teams of National Service (JKT), Police Force, Fire Brigade and Tanzania People's Defence Force (TPDF).

Also, Immigration, Prisons, and the Special Departments of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar will use the donated sports gear. NMB Bank Head of Retail Banking Aikansia Muro handed over the sports gear to Col Robert Mbuba, who received the donation on behalf of BAMATA's Chairman, Brig Gen Saidi.

Speaking at the event, which was also attended by Senior Assistant Commissioner of Fire and Rescue Services Laizer Loshipay, Aikansia commended the BAMATA organizing committee for coordinating and overseeing the important sports events for the  defence and security forces.

"We are delighted once again to be part of these games. Our donation aims to spice up the events. For nearly four years now, NMB has been sponsoring this sports event organized by BAMATA, and we believe this longstanding partnership will continue to be beneficial to both NMB Bank and the defence and security forces,” said Muro.

Muro said NMB Bank recognises the importance of sports in society and appreciates the values carried by the competitions.  She noted that NMB Bank has been sponsoring various sports in the country, including at different times the national football team, Azam FC, cricket teams, the Chief of Defence Forces Golf Trophy, and being in partnerships with Simba and Yanga football clubs.

For his part, Col Mbuba, on behalf of the BAMATA Executive Committee, thanked NMB for their sponsorship, which will contribute to the success of the Military Teams' competitions, using the sports gear as a catalyst for their performance.

"We are pleased with this gesture from BAMATA, and our commitment to the NMB Board of Directors and Management is that we will continue to be clients of this bank, which has provided excellent and friendly service to us and the community at large.

"On behalf of BAMATA's Chairman, Brig Gen Saidi, we hope for continued cooperation, and our expectation is to see NMB Bank becomes the main sponsor of these competitions in the future," said Col Mbuba.
