Mwinyi unveils appointments in key government sectors

Zanzibar president Hussein Ali Mwinyi has ushered in a wave of strategic appointments, effective today, May 9, 2024, aimed at fortifying various facets of the government.

The appointments have seen Ambassador Omar Yussuf Mzee, a retired civil servant with extensive experience appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA).

His appointment is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the authority, facilitating efforts to promote investment and economic growth in Zanzibar.

Dr Huila Ahmed Yussuf, who has previously served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Zanzibar Social Security Fund (ZSSF), has been reappointed to the position.

Dr Yussuf's expertise in social security matters will continue to be instrumental in ensuring the welfare and security of Zanzibar's citizens.

In a move aimed at enhancing investment promotion efforts, Mr Saleh Saad Mohamed has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of ZIPA.

Mr. Mohamed, who previously served as Assistant Director of Investment Services at ZIPA, is well-equipped to lead the authority in attracting investment and fostering economic development.

He replaces Shariff Ali Sharif who was recently appointed Minister for Economic planning.

Mr. Arafat Ally Hail, who previously held the position of Chief Executive Officer at the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC), has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the People's Bank of Zanzibar (PBZ).

His experience in the financial sector will be valuable in steering PBZ towards its strategic objectives and promoting financial inclusion in Zanzibar.

Lastly, Dr Haji Gora Haji, former Head of the Planning Division in the Office of the Second Vice President, has been appointed as the Director of the Department of National Cooperation and Diaspora Coordination in the Office of the President - State House.

Dr Haji's appointment underscores the government's commitment to strengthening cooperation both domestically and with the diaspora community.
