Hunt for oil begins in Ngorongoro

Ngorongoro. The Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) has deployed its experts in Ngorongoro Crater for oil exploration.

District commissioner Hashim Mngandila confirmed that the TPDC experts had arrived for groundwork ahead of the exploration work to cover Ngorongoro, Karatu and Longido districts, all situated in the Rift Valley.

According to a TPDC official, experts say some areas of the Ngorongoro District show signs of having oil. The crater’s geothermal activity can also generate sufficient electricity for the district.

Sometime last year gold was also discovered at Samunge Village where all roads headed to in 2011 when a magic drink discovered by retired Pastor Ambilikile Mwasapile, which was claimed to cure terminal illnesses, attracted thousands of people from in and outside the country.
