Dar es Salaam. President John Magufuli has sworn in Prime Minister Elect, Mr Majaliwa Kassim Majaliwa as the country’s 11th Premier.

Mr Majaliwa was sworn in during a colourful ceremony on  Friday at the Chamwino State Lodge in Dodoma.

The event follows president Magufuli’s nomination of the Ruangwa Constituency MP  announced in parliament yesterday by Speaker, Job Ndugai and was later  endorsed by 73.5pc of MP’s votes.

The ceremony was  attended by government leaders both from the Union and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (SMZ) with the exception to Zanzibar's Second Vice President, Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad.

MP’s from the Opposition Coalition parties (Ukawa) namely CUF, Chadema, NCCR-Mageuzi and NLD were also truant, possibly due to the on-going political crisis in Zanzibar.

Political and social analysts expect President Magufuli’s State of Nation address during the inaugural of the 11th parliament today will draw a roadmap to measures the government was expected to take in order to tame the political impasse in Isles.
