What you need to know:

  • Government has given 12 day ultimatum to beer and spirits manufacturers to start complying with the Electronic Tax Stamps (ETS) machines as directed by authorities.

Mwanza. The government has directed spirit and beer processing industries to use Electronic Tax Stamps (ETS) machines within 12 days otherwise they will legal action.

This was stressed here over the weekend by the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) commissioner general, Mr Charles Kicheere, during an official inspection meant to establish whether companies complied with the ETS directive.

He said until February 28, 2019 all companies processing hard liquor, beer and soft drinks should start using the new system.

During his visit at Premidis, a hard liquor processing industry based in Nyakato and Nyamagana Districts, the TRA managed to confiscated a total of 10,786 cartons that was ready for sale without ETS logos.

Premidis has its brand known as Shimha Waragi.

He said that while at the industry, they noticed that its management was on the process to evade over Sh38.6 million in exercise duty.

“When we reached here, we begun checking some of the boxes packed ready to be taken to different stores. It is when we noticed that some of the bottles beared no ETS logos, which is contrary to TRA’s directives and regulations,” said Mr Kicheere.

Mr Kicheere paid a visit at Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) and Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) in the region.

Meanwhile, efforts to get the Premidis owner to respond to ETS directives proved futile as this paper was told that he had left for India.
