Act Wazalendo youth stronghold has called on the police to act against incidents of trailing against leaders of opposition parties and take the suspects accountable. They also urged law enforcers to take action against the CCM youth wing (UVCCM) who are seen in a video clip saying Mr Lissu should be assaulted, saying the statement is planting hate among citizens in the country.
Dar es Salaam. ACT Wazalendo youth wing has said it will seek unity from their colleagues from other opposition parties to protect their leaders from attacks by CCM youth wing.
They also urged law enforcers to take action against the CCM youth wing (UVCCM) members who were seen in a video clip saying Singida East MP Tundu Lissu should be assaulted, saying the statement was meant to encourage hate among citizens in the country.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, National Defence coordinator Kudra Garula said UVCCM used inciting statements that could disrupt peace and security in the country if left to persist.
“Our silence was meant to provide the police with an opportunity to carry out their constitutional duty of protecting people and properties. However, the silence from law enforcers is a sign of favouritism towards UVCCM, which may plunge the country into chaos,” he said.
He added: “We have been peaceful and have carefully followed the law whenever confronted. Since these efforts have born no fruits, we will look into other means of responding.”
He blamed the Police Force for failing to provide answers to serious incidents including the disappearance of Ben Saanane and the assassination attempt on Mr Lissu.
“Before the September 7, 2017 assassination attempt on Mr Lissu, he reported that there were people trailing him. No report has been issued in spite of law enforcers saying they were following up the matter,” he said.
Mr Garula said retaliating the youth strongholds will write a letter to Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa explaining their dissatisfaction on the way law enforcers have acted against indications of peace disruptions done by UVCCM.
According to him, copies will be made available to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Simon Sirro, Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Robert Boaz, religious institutions and foreign diplomats in the country.
