Tanzania: Ndalichako requests Sh1.4tr for education ministry

Prof Ndalichako has asked the Parliament to endorse a 2019/20 financial year budget proposal of Sh1.389 trillion for her docket. 

Dodoma. The Education, Science and Technology minister, Prof Joyce Ndalichako, on Monday, April 29, requested the Parliament to approve her ministry’s Sh1.389 trillion budget proposal for the 2019/20 financial year.

Tabling the budget proposals in Parliament, Prof Ndalichako, disclosed that Sh862.71 billion will be spent on development projects while the rest will be for recurrent expenditures.

She said the ministry’s priorities during the next financial year, which kicks off on July 1, include, establishment of electronic accreditation system, a move which will increase efficiency in registration of schools.  

Also on the list of the ministry’s priorities are assessment of 5,945 organisations that includes 4,667 primary schools, 1,244 secondary schools and 56 teaching colleges with a view to improving the quality of education.

Her ministry is also set to provide capacity building to 300 secondary school teachers to hone their counselling skills.
