Mengi to be buried on Thursday at his ancestral home

The business man who was the first to set up a private TV station in Tanzania is set to be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Machame, Moshi on Thursday May 9

Dar es Salaam. The founder and executive chairman of IPP Group of Companies Reginald Mengi is set to be buried on Thursday May 9 at his ancestral home in Machame, Moshi.

Family sources have confirmed that the remains of the fallen businessman will arrive in Dar es Salaam from Dubai on Monday, May 6, 2019.

Mr Michael Ngalo the family spokesperson, said on Friday May 3 that the remains will arrive at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) at around 2:30 pm on an Emirates flight.

"Upon the arrival of the body, it will be preserved at Lugalo Hospital, then on Tuesday, May 7, the body will be taken to Karimjee Hall, Dar es Salaam where the public will pay their final respects,” said Ngalo.

Mr Ngalo further revealed that on Wednesday, on May 8, the body will be transported to Machame in Moshi District, his ancestral home where the deceased will be laid to rest.

He added: “The requiem service will take place at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) at Kisereni, in Machame on Thursday, May 9 and on the same day, he will be laid to rest.”

Mengi who played a pivotal role in transforming the country's media industry, among his other contributions, died on Wednesday, May 2 in Dubai where he was receiving treatment.

Following his death, Tanzanians led by President John Magufuli have sent condolence messages to the bereaved family of the business mogul, describing his demise as a huge lose to the country.
