Dar es Salaam. Shortage of land surveyors in Tanzania stood at 47.7 per cent of the total demand, hence impeding the sub- sector’s performance.

Speaking during the question-and-answer-session Lands, Housing and Settlement Development deputy minister Angeline Mabula said demand for land surveyors stood at 2,957.

“But as I speak, we only have 1,546 land surveyors,” revealed Ms Mabula.

This, he said, translates into a shortage of 1,411 experts, who are meant for the purpose.

She was responding to a question thrown to the ministry by Tunduru North lawmaker Ramo Makani (CCM) who sought to know the number of experts required in each councils’ land department.

He also wanted to know the actual number of land surveyors  available in Tunduru District Council.

Responding, deputy minister said councils needed three land officers, land surveyors, land valuers, urban planners and four technicians.

Tunduru District has only four servants in the land department, making it among districts with a dire shortage, according to Ms Mabula.
