Hakielimu scoops 2019 African CSOs excellence awards

Dar es Salaam. Hakielimu, a Tanzania nonprofit organization based in the education sector has received worldwide recognition after emerging winner of the 2019 African Civil Society Organization (CSO) excellence awards.

The organization beat 389 other CSOs across 46 African countries in the event organized by the Rockerfeller Foundation and Epic Africa organization in in Ghana.

"The Awards highlight the importance of organisational capacity in the quest to achieve programme impact and improve the well-being of Africa’s citizens," said HakiElimu Executive Director, Dr John Kalaghe, during a brief ceremony to introduce to award in Dar es Salaam today May 20, 2019.

The ceremony which brought together education stakeholders and civil society organizations was graced by the deputy minister of State in the President's Office (Regional Administration and Local Government Authorities) Mr Mwita Waitara and the permanent secretary in the education ministry, Dr Leonard Akwilapo.

"This award is dedicated to thousands of children who lack opportunities to get education. Continue to speak the truth though that truth may not mean the same to the one intended, you may rethink of expanding your strategy to reach other parts of Africa," said country coordinator of the Tanzania Education Network (TED), Mr Ochola Wayoga.

The African CSOs excellence awards reward organizations that demonstrate excellence across eight key elements of organisational capacity.  

The elements includes strategic ability and adaptability, leadership and governance, financial health and management, human resources and staff development, operations, communication, partnership and alliances, and lastly monitoring and evaluation.
