Dar es Salaam. Tanzania is expected to receive a delegation of 500 Chinese tourists for a boxing match in July this year.

This follows recent talks between the management of Rejoy Company based in China and the Tanzania Tourists Board (TTB).

It will be the second Chinese tourists delegation to visit Tanzania this year, after the first mission led by Chinese tycoon He Luehui and owner of Touchroad International Holding Limited promised to bring 10,000 Chinese tourists, of which the first batch is expected this month or next month.

Rejoy senior vice president Andrew Lu said that once the discussions are concluded, plans will be made to enable the delegation to visit Tanzania during the first month of 2019/20 financial year

“We will recruit high-level boxers who will participate in a boxing match with Tanzanians,” he said.

He said the decision to come to Tanzania stems from a long history of friendship between China and Tanzania.

TTB chairman Thomas Mihayo (pictured) said the delegation is expected to go to Arusha and hold a high level boxing match as well as a forum.

“We want to increase the number of tourists coming to the country, and if we are able to get at least 1,000 tourists from China in the next three years, it will be a great opportunity,“ he said.

Adding that, they are yet to set projections for 2019, as they are still waiting to get figures of the number of tourists who visited Tanzania in 2018.

However, he said that he was optimistic the number would increase especially taking into consideration that in 2017, the number was 1.3 million visitors overall.
