Geita. In a bid to support education, Geita Gold Mine Limited has invested Sh234 million to construct an English medium school at Bombambili in Geita.

GGML vice president (sustainability) Simon Shayo said: “As a responsible corporate citizen, GGML focuses on supporting education in Geita Region as part of its 2018 Corporate Social Responsibility fund amounting Sh9.2 billion.”

Mr Shayo said the other part of the budget had been directed towards other infrastructure improvement.

“We aim at leaving a legacy of enduring value for our Geita and Tanzanian stakeholders through our direct investments, through the jobs we create, through the revenue we generate for the government and through sustainable social investment we make in the host community,” Mr Shayo said.

“We will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure sustained economic development benefit continues to flow from our mining activities.”

Geita Town director Modest Apolinary said Bombambili English Medium School will be equipped with facilities and proper infrastructure.

He called on parents to enroll their children during the 2019 academic year.

Mr Apolinary insisted that the school tuition fees and other costs had all been reviewed to ensure that they remain affordable to everyone.

School head teacher Laurent Daniel said so far there are 58 pupils admitted but the plan is to admit 320 pupils the next academic year.“We have six beautiful rooms completed for primary pupils. Each classroom can accommodate up to 40 pupils. We also have two classrooms for pre-primary education and each class can accommodate 25 pupils,” he said.
