Dar es Salaam. Chadema has expressed concern whether President Jakaya Kikwete will fully execute the Parliament’s resolutions on Tegeta escrow account culprits.
The party said that by commending Judge (rtd) Fredrick Werema who resigned on Tuesday over his role in the scandal that his service in public office was honest and diligent, the Presidency showed serious weakness and Chadema doubts its commitment in resolving the matter. Addressing journalists yesterday in the city, Chadema deputy secretary general (Mainland) John Mnyika said that in light of the President’s statement, other departments which were supposed to investigate and drag him to court would not do that because their boss has already cleared him.
Mr Werema was blamed for facilitating the withdrawal of Sh306 billion from the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) to pave the way for equally questionable acquisition of IPTL by Pan Africa Power Solution (PAP). The money was subsequently distributed to top public officials, politicians and numerous influential individuals.
“The Richmond saga ended in the same way, when the President said what happened to then PM, who resigned over the scandal, was a mere political accident’ and parliamentary resolutions were dropped,” said Mnyika.
Chadema, even the resignation was premeditated to ease public and donor community pressure over the matter. “It looks like none of the other culprits will be axed.” he noted.
