Councils with best, poor performance in revenue collections unveiled

The Minister of State in the President’s Office Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) Selemani Jafo revealed the information in Dodoma on Saturday, January 19, 2019 during a press conference to unveil the performance of councils.

  • The government has unveiled 10 councils with best performance in revenue collections and 20 others with poor performance during the last six months of the 2018/19 Fiscal Year, with Geita Township Council and Geita District Councils top list as best performers.

Dar es Salaam. Geita Township Council and Geita District Council have emerged top on the list of councils with best performance in revenue collection in the first six months of the 2018/19 financial budget.

The Minister of State in the President’s Office Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) Selemani Jafo revealed the information in Dodoma on Saturday, January 19, 2019 during a press conference to unveil the performance of councils in revenue collections from July to December 31, 2018.

During the event that was broadcast live through the ministry’s Facebook page, Mr Jafo also named Nanyumbu and Mbomba District Councils among 20 councils that have underperformed after collecting less than 20 per cent of revenue.

“The rankings have been made regardless of the council’s status as to whether they were municipalities, township councils or district councils,” he said.

He outlined a list of councils with best performance and their respective percentage of revenue collections as compared to targets in brackets as; Geita Township Council (84pc), Geita District Council (78pc), Mbeya District Council (78pc) and Mbozi District Council (73pc).

Other councils include Ikungi District Council (70pc), Kisarawe District Council (66pc), Mbinga Township Council (65pc), Iringa Municipality Council (64pc), Kondoa Township Council (64pc) and Busekelo District Council (62pc).

According to him, councils that have underperformed by collecting less than 20 per cent of their targets and their respective percentage in bracket are Nanyumbu DC (6pc), Momba DC (6pc), Masasi DC (8pc), Msalala DC (9pc) and Nanyamba TC (10pc).

Other councils are Tandahimba DC (10pc), Newala DC (11pc), Mafia DC (11pc), Rorya DC (12pc), Newala TC (12pc), Nsimbo DC (13pc), Mbogwe DC (14pc), Tunduru DC (15pc), Bumbuli DC (15pc), Rufiji DC (15pc), Uvinza DC (16pc), Tarime TC (16pc), Ileje DC (17pc), Masasi TC (17pc), Mlele DC (19pc) and Sumbawanga DC (19pc).

According to him, nine councils out of ten that underperformed during the 2017/18 after collecting less than 20 per cent of their targets have graduated during the period covered by report after collecting above 20 percent of their targets.
