DPP drops murder charges against 2 men

Dodoma. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr Biswalo Mganga, has dropped murder charges against Musa Sadiki and Edward Matiku, who were accused of killing Jackson Thomas.
Mr Mganga was implementing a directive by President John Magufuli, following complaints published by Majira newspaper on March 6, 2019.
Mr Mganga told journalists yesterday that Sadiki had been framed in a case No. 8/2018 heard at a Tabora court after police officers arrested him, stole his Sh788,000, a mobile phone and properties he bought for farmers.
“After the President issued the directive, the DPP’s Office followed up the matter, spoke to him, went through Tabora Town Police Station documents about him and realised that his charges were trumped up.”
He said the suspect was arrested on June 21, 2018 on charges of breaking into a house at night and theft.
He was remanded at 3pm, but the Occurrence Book showed that he was sent to court on June 29, 2018, facing a charge of killing Thomas on May 6, 2018.
According to Mr Mganga, on July 1, 2018 Edward Matiku was arrested on suspicion of breaking into a house and stealing. But on July 16, 2018, he was joined in No.8 murder case.
“After realising that on March 8, 2019, I dropped charges of both accused and the court has set them free.
The President has that directed measures be taken against those involved in framing up the two as a deterrent against those who tarnish the government’s image nationally and internationally,” Mr Mganga said.
