French senate wants strong ties between Paris and Dodoma

Dar es Salaam. French senators proposed an establishment of close relation between Paris and Dodoma. The co-operation should be on land use, urban planning and implementation of various projects to address the challenges of climate change.

The senators proposed that, during their meeting with Tanzania foreign affairs and East Africa co-operation minister DrAugustine Mahiga during his tour of France.

In a statement released by the ministry DrMahigawason a two day tour of France from 21st of this month on invitation of French foreign minister Jean- Yves Le Drian.

“Tanzania and France have promised to strengthen their cooperation; To increase investments and businesses; and to seek for solutions for conflicts facing the Great Lakes regions,” the statement reads.

DrMahiga also held discussion with Marie Audouard, deputy adviser of President Emmanuel Macron.

During the discussion MsAudouard identified some of France’s priority, which include enhancing relationship with African countries, English speaking countries as well as Portugal.

She also said France will continue to collaborate with other countries mediation of regional and international disputes.

MsAudouard added that the French government will continue to encourage the private sector from the country to invest in Africa.

During his visit the foreign minister also speak with the director of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) Audrey Azoulay. The deputy director of the AgenceFrançaise de Développement (AFD) Mr Bertrand Walckenaer.

MrWalckenaer said due to good cooperation, AFP have doubled the development fund they allocated to  Tanzania which will be used to fund projects in different sectors such as transport, energy, water, waste management, agriculture, health and climate change.

Minister Maniga has concluded his two day tour by meeting with the he Movement of the Enterprises of France (MEDEF) with also MsLuiseMushikiwabo, Secretary General of Organisationinternationale de la Francophonie (OIF)
