The government directs Overseas Infrastructure Pvt Ltd of India to resume and complete a water project in Chalinze District by December.

However, Chalinze MP Ridhiwan Kikwete shows doubts whether the directive was feasible while there was still a lot to be done.

Dodoma. The government has directed Overseas Infrastructure Pvt Ltd of India, a contractor that was suspended from carrying out a water project in Chalinze District Council, to resume and finish the work by December, this year.
However, Chalinze MP Ridhiwan Kikwete expressed concerns over government’s response in Parliament on Wednesday, November 14, saying it would be impossible for the project to be completed by December as the remaining work was still huge.
Water deputy minister Jumaa Aweso told Parliament that in the implementation of Phase Three of the project, government decided to reinstate the contractor on the grounds that the project would take longer to complete if a new contractor would be picked for the same.
"The previous contractor has been given new conditions that will ensure his contractual work gets completed within the agreed time and must ensure that he promptly pays sub-contractors working under him," said Mr Aweso.
The deputy minister made the comments when responding to a question by Mr Ridhiwan Kikwete, who had wanted to know as to what steps the government had taken to end water woes in the Chalinze District Council, Coast Region.
Mr Kikwete had also wanted to know as to when the project would be completed.
The deputy minister responded that following the agreements between the government and the contractor, the project would be completed by December 2018 and that the ministry would ensure the contractor delivered as per the agreement of having him reinstated.
