Lugola to clarify on use of national anthem

The government, through ministry of home affairs will hold press a briefing to give clarifications of national flags, symbols and its colours. The move is to create awareness to organization to use government property accordingly.

Dar es Salaam. The controversy surrounding the national flag colours and use of the National Anthem has prompted Home Affairs minister Kangi Lugola to come forth and offer a clarification.

According to social media reports, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology received a letter from the Home Affairs Ministry asking it to run awareness campaigns among government organisations and institution on the proper use of the national flag and its colours and where and when to sing the national anthem.

According to a source who asked not to be named because he is not the ministry’s spokesperson, the minister will address a press tomorrow to clarify on the matter.

“The minister is not in the city at the moment to comment on your question but, he will be here on Saturday and will meet journalists then. I’m optimistic among other things to be discussed will include symbols, regulations and the laws,” said the source on Thursday, December 13.

The Home Affairs ministry’s letter went viral on social media early in the week, whereby among other things, it says that the national anthem can only be sung during special occasions and after issuance of permits.
