Kinondoni lawmaker Maulid Mtulia (CCM) wants the government to increase compensation to families of police officers who die when executing their duties.

Dodoma. Kinondoni MP Maulid Mtulia (CCM) has called on the government to increase the amount paid as compensation to family members of police officers who die while carrying out their duty from Sh15 million to Sh50 million.

When asking his supplementary question in Parliament on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, Mr Mtulia said the current amount was peanuts taking into consideration police officers work in a difficult environment.

In his response, Home Affairs minister Kangi Lugola said the advice was good.

In his earlier question, Mr Mtulia wanted to know what measures the government was taking to reward police officers who were working in a tough environment as law enforcers had been killed.

Mr Lugola said families of police officers dying on the line of duty had been paid Sh15 million as compensation.

He said compensation to an officer injured or who get permanent disability while on duty was made in accordance with the level of injuries after being approved by the welfare committee for police whose members include a doctor.

“Currently, the government has no plans to increase allowances for officers working in a difficult environment. However, plans are underway to remunerate them accordingly.”
