Tanzania: PM Majaliwa decries bureaucracy in information dissemination

  • Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, on Monday, March 18, 2019, officiated an annual meeting for government communication officials and expressed concern over delay in releasing information to the public by some officials.

 Mwanza. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has expressed concerns over too much bureaucracy in the release of information by some government officials.

The Premier made the statement on Monday, March 18, 2019, when officiating a meeting of the government’s communication officials, which is taking place here.

"This unacceptable. The pubic has the right to receive information on time,” he said.

The premier also called upon journalists to embrace professionalism in their reporting by complying with laws, regulations and procedures governing the dissemination of information in the country.

According to him journalists should focus on writing political, economic and cultural stories that aim at strengthening the country’s peace and security, promote economy and maintain.

"Politics can easily divide the country something which should not be tolerated. As the country moves towards industrial economy, education should be provided to the public and its diverse culture maintained,” he said.

The Minister of Information, Culture and Sport, Dr Harrison Mwakyembe, urged journalists to use proper Kiswahili in their reporting.

About 400 government communication officers are attending the five day meeting.

Dr Mwakyembe said the ministry would to take action against officials who do not release information on time.
