Tarime. Mara Regional Commissioner Adam Malima has directed the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in the region to investigate Tarime Rural District executive director Apoo Tindwa.

Mr Tindwa is facing various accusations after a special committee was formed to probe the use of over Sh9.4 billion given by Acacia North Mara as levy of service.

Mr Malima has also directed Mara Regional Administrative Secretary to suspend three workers of the council while directing PCCB to investigate allegations levelled against the trio.

Speaking on Tuesday, April 9 after receiving the committee’s report, Mr Malima said the decision was reached after accepting most of the recommendations given by the committee that conducted a nine-month probe.

The members of staff to be suspended include the head of the livestock department, who at one time served as the district’s acting executive director, Dr Peter Nyanja; district planning officer Samuel Magige and district treasurer, whose name could not be immediately released.

He said among the things uncovered included unauthorized use of overSh1.035 billion after documents to justify the expenditure were missing at the time of the probe.

"The investigation also revealed that over Sh630 million which was to be kept in the women, youths and the disabled’s fund was not channeled to the fund between July 2015 and December 2018," said Mr Malima.

The RC has further directed that the former director of the council, Athumani Akalama, should also be found so that he will be questioned about the accusations levelled against him during the period he was in office.
