Dar es Salaam. Serengeti District Council has been given the green light to rehabilitate Mugumu airstrip to the level of International Airport which will see tremendous increase in the number of tourists going to Serengeti National Park.
Yesterday, the National Environmental Management Council (Nemc) awarded the district an Environmental Impact Assessment Certificate after being satisfied that the planned expansion is not posing any danger to the environment.
Mugumu District executive director Goody Pamba said, construction works would begin within a month.
“We are doing some final touches on the project and we are sorry that we can’t say how much the project is going to cost,” she said.
In his remarks, Serengeti MP Dr Steven Kebwe said the foundation stone for the project would be laid soon.
