One held after irate villagers kill old woman

Bukoba. Police in Kagera Region are holding one person for questioning in connection with the lynching of a 65-year old woman.
The deceased, known as Corletta France, who resided at Kabulala Village, was killed – reportedly by angry villagers – after they accused her of murdering a seven-year old schoolboy, Ismail Hamisi, and burying his body at her nearby farm.
“Residents linked her to the death of the child. We are holding one person whom we suspect played a key role in inciting residents to take part in the killing of the woman,” the Kagera Regional Commissioner, Mr Revocatus Malimi, said.

However, he did not reveal the name of the suspect who is being held for questioning.
Ismail’s dead body was discovered on Wednesday buried at slain France’s farm, some 60 metres away from her house.
Irate villagers then linked the boy’s demise with farm’s owner and went on to savagely assault her to death.
The fallen child was a standard one pupil at Ganyamkanda Primary School in Muleba District.
He was reported missing in the village for a week since April 5 this year.
Ismail’s missing report was reported at Nshamba Police Station on April 6.
Speaking to The Citizen’s sister paper, Mwananchi over the telephone, Kishanda Ward executive officer Cosmas Mweyunge confirmed that France was attacked by irate villagers to death. “After a preliminary investigation, the police allowed his relatives to bury France’s body,” said Mr Mweyunge.
At the same occasion, special seats village councillor Advela Kalikwela, who was also present at the scene revealed that the incident (France’s death) took place following speculations that spread in the village.
