Dar es Salaam. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Tuesday December 4 asked executives at the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) to get rid of bureaucratic tendencies.

The PM said ‘unnecessary’ bureaucratic procedures scare away investors.

Mr Majaliwa made the first visit to TIC since the centre was placed under his office, after being transferred from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

He also expressed his dismay after he was told that the system used to provide work permits is currently not in operation because the commissioner in charge of it, Mr Gabriel Malata is still learning on how to operate it.

“It is not possible for the system is not operating just because of one person…operations should continue while he is still learning,” said the Premier.

The Executive Director of TIC Godfrey Mwambe said that there is a need to change laws that govern the function of different government institutions and department that deals with investment.

He said conflicting rules and laws hinder local and foreign investments.
