Police hold man for allegedly raping toddler

Serengeti. Police are holding a 21year old man, a resident of Natta in Serengeti District, for allegedly, raping an eight-month baby on Wednesday, March 19.

The suspect is being held at Natta Police Station after being arrested when attempting to flee.

The police apprehended the suspect as he was trying to flee.

The victim’s mother, Ms Rhoda Kiboge, disclosed that the suspect was their cattle attendant and that on Wednesday, they left him with their baby girl, but when they came back they found her alone with her private parts bleeding profusely.

“When we came back, we found her alone and her private parts bleeding profusely. Thereafter, we sent her to Natta health centre where we did not get any service,” she said.

“They didn’t have rape kits, so we went to Nyerere Hospital where they discovered that her private parts were destroyed following a sexual assault. We were really shocked.”

Sengerema Regional Police Commander Methew Mgema said the suspect will be taken to district’s main police station for further investigation before being arraigned.

Meanwhile, Robert Kakwesi reports from Tabora that a resident of Kwihara, Mr Emmanuel Deus, is in police custody for allegedly raping his standard five daughter.
