Police search for guard over killing

Tabora Regional Police Commander Emmanuel Nley said the incident occurred after a group of people invaded the mine to take gold concentrates, prompting a guard to fire a gun.

Tabora. A man has been shot dead on suspicion of stealing gold concentrates in Sikonge District, Tabora Region.

Police said on February 6, 2019 that Steven Seleman was killed at a mine at Kapumpa Village, Kitunda Ward, in Sikonge at around 8pm.

Seleman hailed from Bariadi in Simiyu Region.

Tabora Regional Police Commander Emmanuel Nley said the incident occurred after a group of people invaded the mine to take gold concentrates, prompting a guard to fire a gun.

 He said Seleman died during the incident.

Mr Nley explained that after killing Seleman, the guard threw away his firearm and ran into a forest.

Police are still looking for him to give his statement over the killing.
