Geita. Ten families at Nyaseke village in Geita District have been left homeless after their houses were destroyed by heavy rains that were accompanied by strong winds on March 11, 2019.

The downpour also destroyed over 700 acres of food and commercial crops as well as two warehouses of food.

Geita Town Council director Modest Apolnary said those who were left homeless were given temporary shelter at several classrooms at Nyaseke Primary School.

“The Disaster Committee continues to evaluate the losses suffered by the residents and the quantity of emergency aid that is needed. We will reveal further information later,” said Apolnary.

However, the official said the exercise of estimating crop losses was difficult as a result of waterlogged farms that had restricted such work.
